Collection consists of scripts and production materials related to the career of television writer and producer, John Mantley. The collection includes files from Mantley's involvement with television productions of How the West was won (1976-1979) and Buck Rogers in the 25th century (1979-1981). The files may contain a combination of scripts and/or production information, including production-related correspondence, shooting schedules, cast sheets, credits, and other such information. Additionally, there is one file containing a small amount of publicity stills, crew information and correspondence related to the television series Gunsmoke, in which Mantley was the producer.

John Mantley was born in Toronto, Canada on April 25, 1920, but he started his acting career in the United States. He studied at the Pasadena Playhouse and then played on stages from La Jolla, Calif. to New York City. He was also an author who later became a producer for television. His credits include executive producer of Buck Rogers in the 25th Century, Gunsmoke, How The West Was Won, and MacGyver. He died in Southern California on January 14, 2003.
